Hello everyone,
University classes started a few weeks back and even though my schedule isn't very full just yet, it still feels like I am more tired and altogether more droopy these days. Thinking does require energy! I'll be doing my BA thesis during this fall and next spring, so I'm preparing to drown myself into books and academic articles very soon.
That doesn't mean I've given up sewing. On the contrary, aside from studying and sleeping, it's pretty much all I do. Sometimes I wonder if I chose the correct career path... but then I remember that voice disorders are interesting as hell, and doing SLP job makes more money than being a seamstress. So yeah, sewing will remain a hobby, fun as it is. :)

When September begun, I decided it was time to retire my old pencil case, which had served me faithfully since middle school. The thing was around 16 years old, which in pencil-case-years is probably like 200 or something, so I turned to the internet to find tutorials on pencil cases.
I found this
piano keys pencil case tutorial, but I liked a more rounded/edged pencil case, so I stole the piano keys idea from that and followed
another blog post on how to make a different looking pencil case.
I ended up with this:
I'm pretty happy with my new pencil case, and going to classes is a lot more fun with awesome equipment! :)

Another thing I made was this dress:
The fabric has ninjas on it!
Ninjas! How cool is that?! :D

Next, I made a shirt just to try it out. I hadn't made a shirt before, so this was kind of new. I like the result, though:

And last but not least, I made a fabulous dress.
See, I'd had awful 90's traumas concerning velvet. The material just seemed to scream 90's style dresses with spaghetti straps, but then I found over 3 meters of black velvet at the Salvation Army secondhand store for 2 euros. I stood there and pondered if I was ever going to use it for anything, but in the end my curiosity won. I decided to see if I could banish my 90's related associations with velvet, and so I made a dress:
I added some decorative pieces of green along the edges of the pockets and the neckline.
So yesterday me and
Stormiina headed out to take some pictures of the dress. Or me. Well, me in the dress.
(All of the following photos are taken by Stormiina.)

Don't mind me, just doing my exercise here...
I love the dress and I love the pictures. Photoshoots are always so much fun ^_^
What do you think of the dress and the photos? :)
love,
